Developmental of 5 acre of land to demonstrate and to train farmers about the various techniques of organic farming at Nabha, Punjab. 3. Kheti Virasat has organised about 10 training camps in all over Punjab for the orientation of farmers about the practical concepts of organic farming in different villages. 2. Dr.Priti Joshi again visited the Punjab between 25th January and 10th of Febraury 2001.She has visited ten villages and six towns. The short training camps for organic farming were also held at every place, she has visited Shri Sompal, member, planning commission,Government of India inaugurated the organic research and training centre of Kheti Virasat in Febraury 2001. This research, documentation and training unit of Kheti Virasat named as Centre for Sustainable Agriculture and Development (CASD) Nabha,District Patiala. Jindal Charitable Trust, Nabha, sponsered this centre and its farm. Dr. B. D.Kansal, former professor in soil Sciences PAU was appointed Advisor of CSAD. The working group of medicos on agro chemicals and health was formed in year 2000 to involve medical professionals on environmental health issues. As Punjab is facing acute health hazards due to pesticides it is essential that medicos of state should be aware of this. This working group is in process to establish study-circles of medicos in this state.(This Working group was subsequentally renamed as Working Group on Environmental Health in 2003.) 7. Working Group on Environmental Health :- 6. Technical know how was provided in one project owned by Sewa Bharati for the construction of organic manure structures with NADEP compositing method. This project has beencompleted in the Tanda town (District Hoshiarpur )with financial support from RC, CAPART, Chandigarh . 5. Kheti Virasat study circles were started at Nabha, Patiala , Bathinda, Ferojpur, Fazilka and Amritsar with the purpose of spreading the knowledge of organic farming , traditional methods of agriculture , water conservation and other issues of environmental sustainability among farmers and students. Few village level study circles were also initiated. 4. As the part of campaign several resource persons namely Dr. Jatinder Bajaj ( Director, Centre for Policy Studies, Chennai); Eminent journalist and former Editor Jansatta, Delhi Shri Banwari ; Dr Ravinder Aggarwal (senior agriculture journalist ) ; Dr. Jyotsana (Ayurvedic & Organic farming expert) ; environmental activists from toxic links Ms. Madhumita Dutta ; Shri Ramesh Dagar (President, Kissan Club, Haryana and pioneer organic farmer)had visited Nabha and some other parts of Punjab. CSAD has developed a demonstration farm on Nabha-Mehnas road, for organic farming.It has demonstrative units of various systems of compositing viz. NADEP compositing, four pit system, bio-dung method, Indore system,Vermiwash, Jeevic-teeka etc.in its campus.
